A Major League Moment: Stephen Vogt Welcomes School of Imagination at Giants vs. Guardians Game
This past week, magic happened at Oracle Park — and it wasn’t just on the field. As the Cleveland Guardians took on the San Francisco Giants, School of Imagination (SOI) families and staff were treated to a heartwarming, behind-the-scenes experience with none other than Stephen Vogt, Manager of the Cleveland Guardians and longtime friend and champion of SOI.
Before the first pitch, Stephen took time out of his game-day routine to meet with students, families, and educators from the School of Imagination, the Dublin-based nonprofit known for its pioneering work in inclusive education and early intervention. The meet-and-greet was more than a simple photo opportunity; it was a reunion between a hometown hero and the school community he continues to lift up with unwavering commitment.
As a former Major League catcher, two-time All-Star, and now a rising star in the manager ranks, Stephen Vogt’s baseball accolades are impressive — but it’s his work off the field that truly sets him apart. For years, Stephen and his wife Alyssa and their family have been deeply involved in supporting SOI’s mission to unleash the potential of every child through early intervention, small class sizes, and a personalized touch that makes each family feel seen, supported, and empowered.
Their generosity is felt every day through initiatives like the Vogt Family Scholarship Fund, which ensures that children can access SOI’s life-changing programs regardless of financial barriers. And the Vogt Family Center, a dedicated space on the SOI campus designed to serve children and families through integrated therapies, enrichment, and educational support.
For one family in particular, the afternoon was especially full circle. Mandy and James made the trip from Tracy, California with their son Justus — now 11 years old — to reunite with Stephen. Stephen and Justus first met during Stephen’s visit to SOI in 2016. At the time, Justus was just 2 and had recently begun attending SOI’s inclusive preschool, where children of all abilities learn side by side in a setting designed for success. Justus was also the very first student to benefit from a scholarship through the Vogt Family Scholarship Fund. Thanks to the early intervention he received — made possible by the Vogts’ generosity — Justus is now thriving as a 6th grade student.
During the meet-and-greet, Stephen shared hugs, laughs, encouragement, and autographs with SOI students, some of whom are aspiring athletes themselves. He greeted staff members like old friends and thanked them for the work they do every day to change lives. It was a touching moment of reconnection, and a powerful reminder that champions aren't just found on the diamond, but in communities, classrooms, and in the hearts of people like Stephen Vogt.
You can be a champion for the School of Imagination alongside Stephen and other local sports celebrities at the Let’s Go All-in for the Kids Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament benefit on Saturday, January 24, 2026. It promises to be a fun evening in support of accessible and inclusive early childhood education. Sign up here to be contacted when tickets go on sale.
As the sun set over San Francisco Bay, one thing was clear: the partnership between Stephen Vogt and the School of Imagination is only getting stronger. Together, they are proving that with heart, hope, and a little hustle, anything is possible — both on and off the field.
Special thanks to Stephen and the Cleveland Guardians, and our great friends at the San Francisco Giants, especially Bertha Fajardo, for making this day possible for our SOI family.
