Autism Resources in the Tri-Valley: A Parent's Guide

Where to start when you're worried about your child — screening, evaluation, therapy, and support across Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, San Ramon, and Danville.

If you're a parent in Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, San Ramon, or Danville and you're worried about your child's development — a speech delay, a possible autism diagnosis, or just a feeling that something's different — you are not alone, and you don't have to navigate it by yourself. The Tri-Valley has a strong network of resources, but it can be hard to know where to start. This guide walks you through the main ones.

Start here: free developmental screening

If you're not sure whether your child needs support, the best first step is a free developmental screening. It's low-pressure, and it helps you understand whether to seek further evaluation.

Ages 0–5
Help Me Grow (First 5 Alameda County)

A free phone line and referral service that connects families to developmental screenings and local resources across Alameda County.

Ages 0–3
Regional Center of the East Bay (RCEB)

California's early-intervention system. If your child is under three and you have developmental concerns, RCEB can evaluate and, if eligible, coordinate services at no cost to families.

Evaluation and diagnosis

A formal autism or developmental evaluation gives you real answers and opens the door to services. Evaluations are available through Regional Center (under 3), your school district (3 and up), your pediatrician and health plan, and community providers.

Ages 3+
Your local school district / Tri-Valley SELPA

Public preschools and school districts (including Dublin USD) provide special-education assessments and services for children three and older through the Tri-Valley SELPA.

School of Imagination & Happy Talkers

Our Dublin team provides developmental and autism evaluations, including ADOS assessment — and because we also provide therapy and an inclusive preschool, an evaluation connects straight to support.

Therapy and services

Once you know what your child needs, therapy is where progress happens — speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, and ABA (behavioral) therapy are the most common supports for young children with autism and developmental delays. Many families access these through insurance or Regional Center.

Dublin, CA
School of Imagination & Happy Talkers

Parent support and advocacy

You'll want people in your corner who have walked this road — for emotional support, and for practical help with IEPs, services, and paperwork.

Parent support
Family Resource Navigators

Parent-to-parent support, IEP guidance, and resource navigation for East Bay families of children with disabilities.

Parent training
Parents Helping Parents
