Five ways to create a lasting impact.
Every type of legacy gift has unique benefits. Choose the approach that aligns with your estate plan and personal goals — and consider discussing options with your estate planning attorney.
One of the easiest ways to give. Simply name School of Imagination as a beneficiary in your will or trust, along with the specific dollar amount you want SOI to receive upon your passing.
Gift specific assets — securities, real estate, or other non-cash assets. There may be significant advantages to gifting appreciated assets, including avoiding capital gains tax. Discuss with your estate planning attorney.
Designate a percentage of your total estate or the remainder of your trust assets to School of Imagination. This approach naturally scales with your estate's value over time.
Designate SOI as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or IRA. Because SOI is a 501(c)(3), there are significant tax savings — retirement assets left to a charity avoid income and estate taxes entirely.
School of Imagination welcomes gifts from Donor Advised Funds. Contact your DAF sponsor to recommend a grant to SOI, or name us as a successor beneficiary of your DAF account.
Preferred language when making gifts to School of Imagination
School of Imagination, whose mailing address is currently 9801 Dublin Blvd, Dublin, California 94568 (Federal Tax Identification #: 20-8683005), or any organization that is a successor thereto by merger, consolidation, transfer of assets, or other manner provided by law.
Common estate planning vehicles.
These documents and instruments form the foundation of most estate plans. Understanding them helps you think clearly about how your gift to School of Imagination can be structured.
A living trust is the central document of most estate plans. It avoids California probate — which is time-consuming, expensive, and public — and allows you to retain complete control of your assets while alive, with a smooth transition to your intended beneficiaries on your passing.
A pour-over will works alongside a living trust as a safety clause. If any property is held in your name rather than by your trust at the time of death, the will directs that property into the trust, ensuring nothing falls outside your estate plan.
A CRT provides income to you or other beneficiaries during the trust term, with the remainder going to School of Imagination at the end. It can offer significant tax benefits, including an immediate partial charitable deduction and avoidance of capital gains on contributed assets.
A CLT is the inverse of a CRT — School of Imagination receives income during the trust term, and your beneficiaries receive the remainder at the end. CLTs can be an effective tool for transferring assets to heirs at reduced gift or estate tax values.
